Aina & Art: Kahilu Exhibition

Our wonderful after school fiber arts class culminated in an art installation at the Kahilu theater. The theme was, “Ku Ikaika Ku a ‘aha lua”, Stand strong, Stand together. Our students did a wonderful job of representing Mala’ai with their artistic talents. We are so grateful to Helen Naho’opi’i for her love for teaching our students about fiber arts throughout this afterschool program.

Our structure was made out of bamboo as bamboo is flexible yet sturdy even in the strongest winds. It stands strong regardless of the adversity it faces.

The students made bamboo mats, created wool pillows, wove baskets which is all accompanied by some lovely gem glass popcorn and olena (turmeric) from the garden!

One of our afterschool students who contributed to building this project, with their family on opening night. Great photo of the whole exhibit!
