Summer Seed Camp 4H

With funding support from the UH-CTAHR Extension Seed Hui, Extension agent Marielle Hampton, Gabriel from Mālaʻai, co-led a 4-H Seed Camp at Mālaʻai in June 2023. The program featured hands-on activities focused on seed education, including garden scavenger hunts, seed and flower dissection, seed art, cooking with seeds, seed cleaning, and propagation. At the end of the program, students took home their own seed packets and potted plants. In post-program evaluations, 60% of participants could identify at least two parts of a seed, 90% could list three stages of the plant life cycle, and 60% named two or more seed dispersal mechanisms.
