Spring Garden Scoops

Even with the rains, we have been doing a lot in our outdoor classroom! Our garden has been productive, despite the drought that we recently came out of. During this past quarter we harvested over 575 pounds of food and 234 eggs; the garden is abundant and the chickens are healthy! We have been enjoying beets, carrots, potatoes, our avocados won’t stop, and we got our bulbling onions planted in time for a spring harvest. Fingers crossed the heavy rains don’t affect their growth.

We continue to collaborate with Ka Oha, Kanu o ka ‘Āina’s homeschool hui, through fieldtrips where students get to experience our garden classroom.

Avalon Paradea has been a welcome guest in the garden this semester, sharing about seeds, pollinators and native forests with our students. Avalon is an ʻāina-based creative, steward, & educator with a MS in Tropical Conservation Biology and Environmental Science. And the best part? Avalon is a Waimea Middle School alumni!
