We started this quarter off with a ton of class visits! Teachers from various subjects have been bringing their students out and utilizing the garden as a teaching space. See what our students have been up to.
Classes coming to the garden with their teachers include 6th grade science,7th grade science, ‘Ike Hawaii ( Hawaiian knowledge) ,6th,7th and exploratory writing, technology and businesses classes.
Students have been aiding in cultivation of beds through “chopping and dropping” the cover crops that protected and fed the garden beds over the summer.
Students planted carrots, leeks, tomatoes, kalo, swiss chard and kale, to name a few.
We will soon harvest kabocha squash, glass gem popcorn and pigeon peas that were planted last spring.
Partnered with 6th grade social studies for native and non-native plant lessons.
