Food Experiences for Agricultural Science Training - FEAST

Remote island communities need agricultural science education to address important regional issues of food security and sustainability, but they lack accessible distance learning resources for students and teachers.

Booklets are available to teachers and parents, and are currently being offered discounted/free thanks to support from the USDA.

ʻUlu Education Toolkit

The ʻUlu Education Toolkit is meant to support educators in incorporating lessons about ʻulu into the classroom, school garden, and formal or informal learning environments. The Toolkit is designed as an interactive online database where educators and families can search and organize materials as needed by grade, subject matter, resource type, and/or academic standard. This curriculum created in collaboration with the Hawai‘i ‘Ulu Cooperative (HUC), Hawai‘i Farm to School Hui/Hawai‘i Public Health Institute, the STEMS² Program at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa College of Education, and other community partners.

 

CNSS Farm to School Resource Hub

The Child and Nutrition Services Site has created a searchable resource hub that “allows all USDA Farm to School granteesState agencies, and other partner organizations to seamlessly submit farm to school resources and training materials.”

The Hawaii Environmental Education Alliance

HEEA has an ongoing newsletter that features environmental education resources, grants for schools, and connects you to local environmental initiatives and events.

National Environmental Education Foundation

Grade level: K-12
This is a great resource for environmental education materials. It includes an impressive array of environmental studies, videos, quizzes and other interactive features.

 

Agriculture in the Classroom

Grade level: PreK-12th grade Great site from the USDA with lots of helpful resources including lesson plans and STEM projects.

Mālama ʻĀina Foundation

Grade level: K-12 and college level
Education in science, math, and Hawaiian culture through project-based learning.

 

Center for Ecoliteracy

Excellent site with a collection of books, lessons, guides, recipes, videos, and other tools to support ecological education including Big Ideas, a standards-based curriculum created in partnership with National Geographic.
