Māla‘ai Tacos

Garden Fresh Tacos 

Yield: ~6-8 Servings Worth

Ingredients:

  • 1-2 lbs of your favorite filling (ground beef, thinly sliced steak, chicken, beans, sweet potatoes! etc.)

  • ½-1 Large onion-minced finely

  • Corn Tortillas

  • All your favorite taco toppings like cheese, lettuce, cilantro, sour cream, pickled onions, tomatoes and more! 

  • Seasoning for taco filling

    • 1 Tbsp chili powder

    • 1 tsp paprika

    • 2 tsp ground cumin

    • 1 tsp salt

    • 1 tsp black pepper

    • ½  Tbsp garlic powder

    • 1 Tbsp freshly minced oregano leaves (or dried)

Instructions:

  1. In a large deep skillet, sautee 1-2 tbsp of preferred cooking oil over medium heat. Once hot add in your filling ingredients. Sautee for a few minutes and then add your minced onions and seasoning mix. Continue to cook until cook thoroughly or until desired doneness (depending on filling ingredient).

  2. Heat up your corn tortillas and prep all your taco toppings. Slice, dice and shred!

  3. Build your tacos! Start with your filling and cheese at the bottom and add your toppings from there. 

Optional: This recipe can be edited for any ingredients you like. Our students made this in our after school club and really enjoyed it with a fresh mango salsa! Adapt recipes to fit your favorite flavors and nutritional needs! Enjoy cooking!
