The 3rd Annual School Garden Workdays Part II will take place on February 10 from 9:00am-12:00pm at four school gardens across the island. (We hosted 4 school garden workdays in the fall!)
Help get the gardens in shape for the school year ahead and connect with your local school garden and community members. The goal of this event is to increase residents’ exposure to their local school garden, and who is doing what within their local community. There will be guest presenters and delicious food from local vendors at each site!
The February 10 workday will include the following schools:
Kahakai Elementary - Join Ashleigh King at Kahakai in Kailua-Kona with a presentation by Marielle Hampton from UH CTAHR. Marielle will be talking about cooking with herbs! Learn how to use them in tea, butter, & pesto!
Chiefess Kapiʻolani Elementary School - Join Topher Pike at Kapiʻolani Elementary in Hilo with garden expert Donna Mitts presenting! She will present on seed saving and starting your own home backyard garden.
West Hawaiʻi Explorations Academy - Join Ben Duke in the WHEA garden with a presentation by Hawaiʻi ʻUlu Coop’s Anissa Lucero who will be talking about agroforestry and guide you in designing a mini agroforest!
Kua O Ka Lā - Join Vanessa Dilcher at KOKL with a presentation by professional chef, Justine Ma who will be conducting a cooking demo on how to make hummus from scratch, with local ingredients that are colorful and delicious!
This event is a collaboration between the Hawai‘i Island School Garden Network and the Hawaiʻi Island Food Alliance, in partnership with Hawaiʻi County.
