18” x 72” traditional Hawaiian Kapa made from Wauke that was grown by Marie at her family’s Honopua Farm, and then pounded and hand stamped using ‘Ohe Kapala with natural dyes that she created.  This extraordinary piece was created for her mastery exhibit at The Honolulu Academy of Arts in 2008.

Solomon Apio
A large Kamane Umeke (bowl) replicating a traditional shape.  Solomon works exclusively in all native hardwoods making bowls, traditional tools and weapons.  He volunteers extensively at Bishop Museum restoring ancient umeke using pewa and other techniques.

A medium-sized Kamane Umeke (bowl) replicating a traditional shape.  Solomon is a descendant of the Kauhaleli’ili’Ioahienaenaokukaniloko ‘ohana from central ‘Oahu, whose ancestors were revered kapa makers.  
A once-in-a-lifetime experience -- discovering the summit of Mauna Kea and one of the leading observatories in the world!  Led by Canada-France-Hawai'i Telescope's Executive Director, Dr. Christian Veillet, includes a tour for 4 (16 years and older, please), the drive from Waimea to mid-level Hale Pohaku, dinner and talk with Dr. Veillet, then drive to the summit for a tour at sunset and visit the CFHT observatory to watch astronomical observations with the world's largest digital camera.

A pair of 16” x 20” framed hand-made Hawaiian Kapa pieces printed with contemporary floral designs using natural dyes and overlayed with harakeke (Maori flax – their indigenous fiber).  Created during PIKO, a creative exchange among indigenous artists in Waimea in 2006 when working with Maori flax artisan Christina Wirihana from Aotearoa.
